In 2024, our country's railway passenger and freight traffic reached a record high

The State Railway Administration reported on January 16 that from January to December 2024, the national railway passenger and freight shipments grew steadily, reaching a record high in the same period, better meeting the people's travel and logistics service needs.

Passenger traffic exceeded 4.30 billion for the first time

In terms of passenger transportation, from January to December 2024, the national railway passenger transmission volume completed 4.312 billion passengers, an increase of 11.9% year-on-year, and the annual passenger transmission volume broke through the 4.30 billion-person threshold for the first time. Among them, the passenger transmission volume of EMU 3.272 billion passengers, accounting for 75.9% of the national railway passenger transmission volume, an increase of 12.9% year-on-year; the passenger turnover completed 1.57991 trillion person-kilometers, an increase of 7.3% year-on-year, of which the passenger turnover of EMU 1.084549 trillion person-kilometers, an increase of 10.3% year-on-year.

In December, the national railway passenger transmission volume completed 297 million passengers, an increase of 2.6% year-on-year; passenger turnover completed 95.849 billion kilometers, basically unchanged year-on-year.

According to the relevant person in charge of the State Railway Group, in 2024, the State Railway Group will optimize the operation structure of high-speed rail trains, increase the number of trains in operation between major cities, expand the scope of operation of Fuxing intelligent EMUs, and put Fuxing high-speed rail into operation for the first time. The national railway single-day passenger delivery reached a record high of 2144.8 million; the Spring Festival, summer and holiday passenger delivery volume has repeatedly broken historical records. Some tourist train market operation rights have implemented open investment, and implemented the action of increasing the opening of silver-haired tourist trains to promote service consumption. 1,860 tourist trains were operated throughout the year, an increase of 20% year-on-year.

Developing a complete logistics system with railways as the backbone

In terms of freight, from January to December, the national railway freight delivery volume 5.175 billion tons, an increase of 2.8% year-on-year; freight turnover 3.58619 trillion tons-kilometers. Among them, the national railway freight delivery volume 3.985 billion tons, an increase of 1.9% year-on-year; the national railway freight turnover 2580.63 billion tons-kilometers.

In December, the national railway freight transport volume 459 million tons, an increase of 5.4%; freight turnover 325.903 billion tons of kilometers, an increase of 3.3%. Among them, the national railway freight transport volume 354 million tons, an increase of 3.8%; freight turnover 2992.28 billion tons of kilometers, an increase of 5.9%.

According to the relevant person in charge of the State Railway Group, in 2024, the State Railway Group will vigorously develop "total to total" marketing and logistics general contracting, and the total contracted freight volume of logistics will be 540 million tons, which will strongly promote the "round to rail" transportation. R & D on the China Railway Network Freight Platform, vigorously develop the whole logistics with railways as the backbone, and attract 122,000 social vehicles. Build a fast logistics product system, innovate the multi-modal transportation model, and expand the operation of trans-railway group company freight trains. Innovate railway logistics financial services to help 645 customers obtain credit financing totaling 17.50 billion yuan, of which more than 80% are small and micro enterprises.

According to statistics, from January to December 2024, the total investment in railway fixed assets across the country was 850.60 billion yuan, an increase of 11.3% year-on-year. The new railway line was put into production for 3113.4 kilometers, the double railway line was put into production for 2687.2 kilometers, and the electrified railway was put into production for 3935.8 kilometers. The construction of modern railway infrastructure system continued to advance.

The relevant person in charge of the State Railway Group said that in 2025, the State Railway Group will increase investment in railway construction, strengthen railway planning and design and quality and safety management, and make due contributions to promoting a sustained economic recovery.
